Stokes heads into final stretch

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Oak Glen High School graduate Skye Stokes and the West Virginia University volleyball team are heading into into the home stretch of the season.

The Mountaineers are 14-7 and 4-6 in the Big 12 and have a home series with Kansas on Thursday and Friday night before traveling to Howard University on Nov. 12. The Mountaineers close out the regular season home slate by hosting Texas Tech on Nov. 18 and 19. The final two regular season matches will be at TCU on Nov. 26 and 27.

Stokes, who also played at East Liverpool High School, has played 21 matches and 71 sets for the Mountaineers. She has 48 points and 13 kills with 35 aces. On the defensive side she has 175 digs and a serve reception rate of .985.

Bears to have finale on Thursday

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. -- The Oak Glen football team will host Wheeling Central Catholic at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

It is the season finale for the Golden Bears, 2-5. The game was originally supposed to be played on Friday.

OVAC boys soccer stars

Beaver Local's Kade Dowdell, East Liverpool's Cole Dailey and Jake Myers as well as Oak Glen's Andrew Giambroni and Andrew Snyder were named to the All-Ohio Valley Athletic Conference boys soccer team.

Honorable mentions include: Beaver Local's John Mondak and Anthony Persohn; East Liverpool's Conner Loosemore and Chane Stull; and Oak Glen's Evan Logston and Mason Wilson.

Players of the year include Trinity Christian's Gabe Turak (1A/3A), Weir Jacob Morgan (4A) and Morgantown's Caden Carpenter (5A). Boys' coach of the year was Weir's Matt Kopp.

OVAC girls soccer stars

Beaver Local's Chansyn Hoppel, Hailey Russell; East Liverpool's Allie Kidder; and Oak Glen's Alexus Greenlief, Maddie McKay, Kami Ward and Brooklyn Watts were named to the All-Ohio Valley Athletic Conference girls soccer team.

Players of the year include Linsly's Helen Bossart (1A/3A), St. Clairsville's Alyssa Bodkin (4A) and Parkersburg South's Samara Nunn (5A). Coach of the yera was Linsly's Chuck Neighoff.
