Thanks & Spanks

The East Liverpool/Calcutta Area Garden Club sends a THANKS to the East Liverpool Fire Department and firefighter Bobby Smith for burning the grass at the Serpentine Garden at the entrance to East Liverpool. Your help is greatly appreciated.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the businesses at the end of Newell. Repairs and spring cleanup is badly needed. Take pride in the community.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the Pelley family for helping us load our groceries in the car and returning the cart. Brandi, Nick, Alex and Briston, you are the best. They even offered to go home with us to unload.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a local fast food chain that only gave me one sandwich when I ordered five. SPANKS, too, to myself for not checking the order before leaving.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to Ohio Gov. John Kasich for not using the rainy day fund to assist in repairing township and city roadways throughout the state.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the local fire departments that work together for the betterment of all our communities.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a local resident who approached me and criticized me as a parent while I was feeding my child chicken nuggets – suggesting I provide more healthy meals.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to those who use the No. 5 hole at the East Liverpool Country Club Hole for sled riding and leave their trash and old clothing for someone else to clean up. Bring a trash bag with you next time.

THANKS, writes a reader, to legendary rockers Billy Greer, Chris Anderson, and Johnny Parrendo, along with the talented Zach Paxson and other local musicians for their time and effort with the Beaver Local Foundation fundraiser.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to East Liverpool City Council for delaying the contract with the police department.

Thanks & Spanks

Longs Run Presbyterian’s Food Pantry sends a THANKS to the Hope Circle of Trinity Presbyterian Church for its generous donation to the pantry. All donations greatly appreciated.

THANKS, writes a reader, to East Liverpool Mayor Ryan Stovall for his uplifting “State of the City” address. It is great to hear the city is moving forward.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Dezso Polgar, a lieutenant with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, for teaching a “Refuse to be the Victim” course – a program of the NRA that teaches personal safety, home security and crime prevention.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the NewBold Academy Parent-Coach Organization for its volunteer hours to our successful Newspaper in Education week, along with running our first Scholastic Book fair. THANKS, too, to NewBold Academy Learning Center staff for the fantastic Family Literacy Night. It is evident that the students have developed a love of learning. And also a THANKS to Connie Hissom of Connie’s Corner for donating the drinks for the recent literacy.

A sarcastic THANKS, writes a reader, to the local retired physician who recently announced in a letter to the editor that he had left the Democrat Party. Perhaps it’s a good move for you, since you routinely side with Republicans.

THANKS, writes The Review, to those students who participated in the 57th Annual Columbiana County Spelling Bee. You all should be proud of your accomplishments. THANKS, too, to those parents/guardians, as well as family members and friends, of these students who helped them study along the way.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to officials with the city of East Liverpool for the appearance of the downtown streets. The material that remains from treating the roadways during the winter season makes for an ugly look.

Thanks & Spanks

SPANKS, writes a reader, to those who believe they own the roadway and place markers in their yard so the snowplow’s blade won’t mess up their yard. It’s called an easement. THANKS, however, to snowplow drivers who do the best they can to plow our roadways – you all are appreciated.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the couple at a local Chinese restaurant who belittled and spoke down about a gentleman, who served in our military, his wife and their children. That man you talked about fought overseas for our country, and fought for the freedom you have to go out and enjoy things.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Coach Davis and Coach Rudibaugh for the effort and hard work they put forth for the East Liverpool High School boys and girls bowling teams. What a great season for both teams.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to those teachers at an area school who chose to wear jeans and flannels during parent-teacher conferences. It appeared very unprofessional.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the wonderful ladies in the downtown Giant Eagle deli who kindly fulfilled my order although it was on short notice. I am very thankful for your compassion and wonderful customer service.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a Wellsville resident on Main Street who allows their dog to bark during all hours of the day.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Carlos Monteiro – a local gentleman who served in the military and fought for our freedom – and to his beautiful family. You are truly a hero to us all.

The Review issues a SPANKS to those who recently vandalized The Point of Beginning monument, near the stateline, in the city’s East End. Why is it that the area can’t have anything nice without someone wanting to damage it?
