THANKS, writes a reader, to the Chester water and sewer workers, water board members and the street department for an outstanding job. When there is a problem, they stay until its fixed and make sure there are no hazards to Chester residents.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Betsy Rose and Nate Latshaw for helping me get my car off the roadway and to safety when it broke down while I was on my way to school. They were angels in disguise.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the local restaurant for the miscommunication that resulted in not enough food to feed a family of four. Upon speaking with the manager he could only offer to make/get additional food. If the manager was truly sorry for the mishap and/or inconvenience he could have offered something to be used in the future, such as a discount or gift certificate.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the gentleman who stopped when I lost control of my vehicle on the ice and crashed my truck into the guardrail. He stayed with me until I called for help/police.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to an area high school for not scheduling a single bowling match for its reserve bowling team. These kids deserve a match, as they have been practicing for three months.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Bowyer’s Kitchen and Bath Center for being so helpful when we recently ordered our new kitchen floor and countertop. They went above and beyond in accommodating us. They even fixed a piece of our kitchen sink that had been damaged awhile ago free of charge and without being asked. It really does pay to shop local!

THANKS, writes a reader, to the “Clean Community” volunteers for taking pride in their hometown of Chester. They don’t do it for the glory, they do it because they love Chester.

THANKS, writes a reader, to area high school basketball coaches who play every player on the roster. SPANKS, though, to those coaches who don’t play each team member.

Longs Run Presbyterian Church sends a THANKS to Glenmoor Presbyterian’s Hand Bell Choir for providing special music at its Sunday morning worship service. The beautiful music was enjoyed by all.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the person who anonymously bought my son a varsity jacket at Tiny Tots Depot. It is greatly appreciated, and he will wear it with pride.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to area high school basketball coaches, and you know who you are, that give only a few seconds of playing time to players on the bench. These student-athletes put in the same practice time, as do the starters. Shame on you.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the East Liverpool city recycle worker who saw me on my porch with more items we were unable to fit into the bin, and took the time to bring the bins back to me to fill up. We really do have good city employees.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the owners of a Hancock County business for not providing adequate heat for their employees.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the guys at Calcutta Giant Eagle who assisted me when my blood sugar was dropping. THANKS, also, to the kind lady who stayed with me until the guys got me something to raise the blood sugar and I felt better. Much appreciated.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the scorebook keeper who was tossed from the gymnasium by game officials during a recent high school basketball game. Perhaps you need reminded that you represent both the school district and the community when you serve in that position.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to those who receive others’ mail and then don’t return it to the letter carrier to see it gets to the right person. SPANKS, too, to the letter carrier for not watching it closer.

THANKS, writes a reader, to East Liverpool School Board president Larry Walton for welcoming everyone and conducting a pleasant first regular meeting Monday. SPANKS, though, to those citizens that wanted a change and still don’t bother to come to the meetings to support our board.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to local police officers who park in the fire lanes at schools and businesses, even when not conducting official business.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the employees of a cleaning company who bring their girlfriends as they clean clients’ apartment houses, and then steal the clients’ medication.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the special lady I met while shopping in Kmart. Explaining I was shopping for underprivileged families, through the church, she first helped in locating merchandise. She later found me in the store and gave me a sizeable donation. I hesitated in taking it, but she insisted. Asking her name, she said it didn’t matter. God bless you. What a Christmas spirit!

THANKS, writes a reader, to the mail carrier who found my purse in an alley and alerted police. SPANKS, though, to the thief who took it. If you needed the money, I would of given it to you, had you asked.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to those individuals who leave their dogs outside on chains or in pens at all times of the year.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Mrs. Cornfield and the East Liverpool bands as the Christmas concert was outstanding. All the music was good but the high school band’s arrangement of “Gloria” was superb. The audience loved it. An awesome evening of music. The band is growing and so is the talent under the direction of Mrs. Cornfield.
