The activity is both a safety hazard and a nuisance. SPANKS, though, to Hancock County Commissioner Jeff Davis for seemingly ignoring the situation after I spoke to him last September.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the older gentleman leaving Tim Horton’s for being so rude, impatient and making unnerving gestures toward my young daughter, who just got her driver’s license the day before and was cautiously backing out of her parking space.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a local school superintendent and board for forcing a contract on the teachers.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to eighth grade teachers and administrators who withhold and exclude educational experiences as punishment for a lifetime of middle school memories. SPANKS, too, to a county board of education for approving such disciplinary actions without thought or concern for the students.

THANKS from an Indian Creek fan to the kind gentleman at Thompson Park who lent me his blanket so I wouldn’t freeze during the East Liverpool/Indian Creek tennis match. I left it tied to a bench. I hope you retrieved it. Your kindness to a stranger was greatly appreciated.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the residents of Carolina Avenue between 5th and 6th streets in Chester who feel they have personal parking spaces. Your foul language note left on the windshield only proves your ignorance.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a local school board and superintendent for doing more harm than good.

THANKS, writes a reader, to whomever is responsible for cleaning and sweeping up the winter debris on the West Virgina side of the Jennings Randolph Bridge, and a special Thanks for never allowing weeds to grow up along that side of the bridge. SPANKS, however, to whomever is responsible for not cleaning the Ohio side.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a local superintendent for abuse of power against an excellent grade school teacher.

THANKS, writes a reader, to Steve Quinn for his countless hours of volunteer work including Commander of the Tri-State Burial Group, Commander of the American Legion Post 121 Color Guard, American Legion Post 121 Adjutant, VFW Post 6450 Community Activity Coordinator, the Moose Friday fish fry and the Pittsburgh City Marathon. Your time, effort and dedication do not go unnoticed.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to ODOT for not fixing the holes on Route 11 between Calcutta and East Liverpool. SPANKS, too, to the W.Va. Department of Highways for not patching the holes on US Route 30.

A special THANKS to all East Liverpool Destination Imagination team managers, parents of team members, school personnel, school administrators, and the East Liverpool City Schools Education and Scholarship Fund for making this our eighth successful year. Without the support, this team-building, creative-problem solving experience would not be available.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the gentleman who paid for my friend’s breakfast at Bob Evans last Monday for his birthday. He actually celebrated his 90th instead of 71st but, you made his day thinking he was 71. And I was pleasantly surprised when I asked for my check and the waitress said you had also paid for my breakfast, and also left the tip. Many thanks. That was nice of you.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the owner of a store who permits his employees to sit on milk crates (a few small steps from the entrance way) and smoke as customers enter his place of business.

THANKS, writes a reader, to those who stopped and helped us, or asked if we needed help, when our car stopped running near “junkyard bend” along Lisbon Street. Special THANKS to those who towed our vehicle and got us out of harm’s way.

The East Liverpool-Calcutta Area Garden Club extends a THANKS to the East Liverpool Fire Department for its assistance in burning the tall grass at the Serpentine Garden.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the alert neighbors in my apartment building. There was a lot of smoke, but no fire. With their help, I am OK. How blessed I am my Easter came a little early. God made them special.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the church on St. Clair Avenue for the title of the sermon sign that read “I Am He.” Whomever chose those particular words is close to enlightenment indeed.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the Calcutta Fire Department for a wonderful fish fry on Good Friday! SPANKS, however, to the man who was upset about beer not being served and causing a scene.

THANKS, writes a reader, to the West Virginia Department of Highways for sweeping the Jennings Randolph Bridge. Keep up the good work and I hope many more roads will be swept soon.

THANKS, writes a reader, to those bright minds in the area who have pioneered research in the fields of Science, medicine, and technology. Someday the world will be a better place because of your endeavors.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to a local pizza delivery driver who came to my door smoking a cigarette and blew smoke in my child’s face while delivering an order to my house.

Calcutta Elementary staff and students send a THANKS to our special guest readers who volunteered their time to read Dr. Seuss books in honor of our Read Across America/Dr. Seuss celebration. Thanks for displaying a love of reading to our students.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the Oak Glen High School baseball coach for endangering the lives of students (exceeding the posted speed limit) and for the embarrassing incident that led to police action. SPANKS, too, to the players involved in the incident.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to whomever removed Easter flowers from the graves of my mother, father, and brother at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to the an area school district superintendent for the unfair treatment toward an employee who was falsely accused of wrongdoings.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to employees of a school in downtown East Liverpool who take all the parking spaces in the business district when they have a parking lot with at least 100 spaces that go unused daily.

SPANKS, writes a reader, to motorists who litter the sides of our roads and highways with embarrassing amounts of debris. It should be cleaned up now before the weeds grow and hide it. THANKS to concerned citizens who adopt a section of highway and keep it litter free. A special thanks to the family that takes care of a portion of state Route 170.
