Dear Editor:
Education: Let’s give it a go by trying to understand what it’s all about. Is it “reading, writing and arithmetic” or carrying a baby doll around learning parenting or balancing a check book?
What is it the advocates of charter schools don’t understand about education?
First and foremost, there are many reasons for a child’s inability to learn. Why does the right continually blame teachers and teacher’s unions?
Charter schools. That’s the last thing West Virginia needs. A system that’s going to take the best and brightest. Charter schools don’t except “D” troubled students.
Public schools: Come one, come all. We are here to teach “reading, writing and arithmetic” to the best of one’s ability to learn.
Public schools have the best system offering general courses for the adequate, but slow-learning student.
For the best and brightest, public schools offer college prep courses and to right the myth of how inept our education system is. I will bet on our college prep students up against any other students in the world, and I will pit our adequate slow-learner up against any labor force in the world if he/she is paid a living wage.
