Dear Editor: In thinking of New Year’s and the big countdown and resolutions that we make today and break tomorrow, my thoughts turn from the traditional New Year’s festivities and all, to a different mindset regarding the New Year. Regarding the big countdown: There is a bigger countdown than the one held in New York City. This countdown started many, many years ago, but is coming to a close or a final ball drop. Dear Editor: DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) won’t MAGA (Make American Geat Again)! It is heralded by the political left that America is the land of immigrants so your citizenship isn’t all its cracked up to be. By that logic, America is just an open stretch of land readily available to whoever shows up so all history that is documented regarding this land is insignificant. Actions speak volumes

Dear Editor: On Dec. 26, I stepped out of my truck and slipped and fell on the ice in the Dunham Plaza parking lot, in front of JoAnn Fabrics. By looking at the angle of my foot, I knew immediately that it was broken, so I yelled out for help. Within seconds I was surrounded by the most caring, loving people God could have put there. The first person on the scene was a nurse — is that God or what! She knew to remove my boot before my foot swelled too much. Lindsey Graham states “America is an idea, not a race.” I agree with the sentiment in his statement 100 percent, and in accordance, I’d like to quote from a famous poem that is now in the Statue of Liberty’s museum. Dear Editor: As I write this, it is four days before Christmas. Soon the birth of Christ will be celebrated across the world. When Jesus was born He came into a world where most people were oppressed or enslaved. Those in power, the rich and political rulers along with those in the church, used their power over men to use them to further their agendas. Women were considered as things only to be used for pleasure or as slaves. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Unanswered questions

Dear Editor: Over a year ago, the Hancock County Commission assumed management of the animal shelter. At that time, they stated they would run the shelter better than the prior management and would consult with veterinarians regarding animal care. Currently, more animals died at the shelter in one month than died in the last year under prior management. If you don’t care about animals but want to relate this to money, this is how the business venture is measuring up. Per state code, the animals are to be spayed or neutered prior to release from the shelter. This isn’t done free ...
