Supporting Liverpool Township trustees

To the editor: As I previously stated, I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly in our (Liverpool) township as I have voluntarily served the township for over 25 years as chairman of the zoning commission and zoning board of appeals. In my positions, I have had to work closely in the township with the two trustees (Mike Bahen and Dennis Giambroni) who are running for relection. Police Department is reason for low crime in Lisbon

To the editor: Supporting “the will of the people” and following “the rule of law” are vital tenets that must be followed at any level of a democratic government. In the case of funding for the Lisbon Police Department, “the will of the people” was the Nov. 5, 2019 passage of an additional one-half percent income tax, and “the rule of law” was specific wording in the approved ordinance stating “a minimum of 75 percent of the one-half perfect increase shall be allocated and dispersed to the Village of Lisbon Police Department for the general operations of the Police ...

Hancock County Commission buries its head in the sand

To the editor: July 1 marked five years since the Hancock County Commission took over operation of the county animal shelter. They refused to renew a contract with a nonprofit that had been operating the county shelter for 20 years. Hancock County is the only Upper Ohio Valley county not partnering with a nonprofit to reduce shelter operation expenses. Based on county documents, the county shelter operation is costing the taxpayers an additional $350,000 a year. The animal death rate has increased about 50%. To the editor: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A time when advocates across the nation focus public attention on the epidemic of domestic violence. A time when every person should consider what she or he can do to become a part of the solution to help end domestic violence in our community.
