Thanks to all for helping with Christmas in EL

To the editor:

There was a magnificent 22-foot Christmas tree, with a beautiful star on top, standing in the Diamond area of our East Liverpool and I am forever grateful to all the people who donated the money so that we may see and enjoy it for many years to come. So many people have thanked me for this project but please understand it’s the people who donated the money that gets the credit.

My dear friend, Frank Dawson, sat on the fountain wall with me and watched the tree being put together by the East Liverpool Street Department, section-by-section, until when it was finished and our mayor, Bobby Smith, plugged in the lights. Wow!

A very special thank you to Jeff Kreefer, our city councilman, who along with our city firemen, replaced all the burned-out lights all over town and put new ones up on 4th Street in front of the clock tower. He built the stage for the singers in the Diamond. He also built the stable for the live nativity. Along with his beautiful wife they withstood the bitter cold to make sure the animals were safe. Pastor Lewellen from EL Nazarene Church, provided the young people who portrayed the actors of the live nativity.

Thank you to all the singers who volunteered their time and talent to provide the Christmas atmosphere on Dec. 7 before the parade.

Thank you to the Beautification Committee for giving our town a “face-lift.” Both through the fall season with the corn stalks and the Christmas season. And a special thank you to my EL-Calcutta Area Garden Club for the many, many hours they have worked downtown to help with the beautification.

Thank you to the EL Kiwanis Club and Paula Vaughn, chairman for the parade, and other attractions that they provide and the beautiful crown that was given to me to wear as the Parade Grand Marshall and John Balsen for the furnishing the beautiful convertible for me to ride in during the parade.

If I have failed to mention someone worthy, my apologies. I am so proud of the tree — all of the people and especially our little town of East Liverpool.

GINI JACKSON,

East Liverpool
