The best Valentine gift

Dear Editor:

When thinking of Valentine’s Day, it’s easy to think of the heart-shaped boxes on store shelves, the flowers and special card to be given to your sweetheart, and/or whatever your choice gift might be for your loved one.

The heart has always been a symbol of love and life. The heart pumps the blood throughout the body, cleansing it and nourishing it. This is a continuous cycle.

In Leviticus 17:11 we read, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood …” That which we call blood carries life. If a person loses blood, they lose their life. No blood means no life, because the blood carries the life.

Spiritually speaking, it’s the same. The blood carries the life of God, for He is Life.

John 14:6 tells us, “Jesus said … I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes unto the Father, but my Me.” John 10:10 says, “… I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” The Source of this “Life” is Christ. “For this is My Blood … which is shed for many for the remission (forgiveness, pardon, or release from a debt) of sins.” (Matthew 26:28) Commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

The best Valentine gift was given when Christ loved us enough to give His life for us.
