Team Chris update

3 min read

Dear Editor:

When we started on Team Chris and the Chris Aikens Kidney Fund project, our goal was to raise $50,000. We have raised $35,000 to date. We are still working to raise the other $15,000, and are hoping we will be able to reach this goal with the continued support of the community.

Chris was able to get his kidney transplant and is doing well. Everyone who has been working for Team Chris and everyone who has supported Team Chris made this transplant possible. You should be very proud of yourselves for doing your part in giving Chris added life. Without the transplant, we were not sure how much time was left for him.

We are planning some additional fundraisers and hope the public will come out and support us in our efforts. If you have any ideas for fundraisers or would like to sponsor an event, please contact me or one of the Team Chris members to discuss those ideas.

We are also looking for venues that will allow us to use their facilities for free so that all the money we raise can go directly to the fund. If you have a facility that we could use, please let us know. The Moose has been very good about letting us use their facilities and we are most appreciative of them, but if there are other places available we would like to talk to you about using your facilities.

We have two events scheduled in March, and hope that the community will help us with these fundraisers.

On March 18, we are having a Chili Cook Off and Silent Pie Auction at the Salvation Army Kitchen on 4th Street in East Liverpool. This should be a lot of fun for the participants as well as the ones who come to taste and rate the chili. We are looking for chili makers, pie bakers, donations of needed items, as well as chili tasters and pie bidders. We have Fiesta ware pie dishes for the lucky pie bidders.

On March 24, we are hosting a dance for school children, grades K-5, at LaCroft Elementary School. The last time we had a dance for the children, they really enjoyed it and we enjoyed the children. So if you have a child or children in the age group, we hope they can participate.

Please view our fliers for these events on our Team Chris website or contact me or one of the Team members for details.

Some other events are in the planning stage, but not yet finalized, so please continue to check our website from time to time to see what has been planned.
