Dear Editor:
While out in the Calcutta area on Dec. 7, I was made aware that some businesses still fail to observe the proper way our flag is to be flown on days on national observance.
We should know and never forget 12-7-1941, the day our country was attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. This day is set aside to honor this day in history and to remember the lives lost because of this attack, and our observance is shown by flying our flag at half staff.
What amazed me was the VA Clinic failed to show the respect to those who perished that day by properly flying our flag at half staff, as did the flag in the Dunham Plaza -- all others in the area did display the flag in the proper manner, and to them I say "thank you" from a grateful citizen and former serviceman.
Maybe next year those who "forgot" will be in step with all the others who did not forget.
