Keep history local

Dear Editor:

A tear in my heart. A tear in my eye.

The County Home, another “built to last” historic structure in the oldest town in the state of Ohio, soon to be gone – perhaps to Atlanta, Ga., where they are paying $1 per each soft red brick. They want their history back, and want it authentic. Perhaps they will restore the staircase, and brag it is from the 1800s.

When our history is gone, what will we pay to get it back? Perhaps $2 per soft red brick?

Why don’t the powers that be understand the one thing Lisbon has going for itself is its history? They don’t know what they’ve got till it’s gone.

Our history needs capitalized on, not given away.
