Dear Editor:
I am a coal miner’s daughter of 3-plus generations. Abolishing coal as an industry would mean delivering freedom from the ill-health my family had to endure for generations, as well as future generations, in our county, state, and planet.
Anyone who supports the coal industry wishes health issues to the miners and pollution to the air, and the ill-health of all who have to breathe it.
We already live in Columbiana County, which has the highest rate of cancer and asthma in the United States.
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is a gift the federal government has given us to provide protection and attempt to stop the blood money. Another gift is alternative energy sources, which is clean, healthy energy. How I wish that alternatives had existed when my family came from Wales to mine coal and had to endure mine explosions and health issues. They would have led healthier and longer lives.
Never for a minute should anyone support continuation of such a deplorable way to make a living or heat our homes or industry. And never for a minute should we support candidates who support the continuation of the coal industry.
