WELLSVILLE -- Richard David "Dave" Smith, 86, of Wellsville, Ohio, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born April 1, 1940, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of the late Richard C. and Gladys Andrews Smith.
Dave leaves behind his children, Ann (Russ Raley) Bobalik of East Liverpool and Dave (Michelle) Smith of Wellsville; three granddaughters, Alexandra (Joe Scorse) Bobalik, Emma Smith, and Jennifer (John) Traina; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Vayda Traina and Hugo Scorse; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Donna Lee Robinson Smith, who passed away on Aug. 21, 2026. They shared a long and loving marriage and are now together once again.
Dave and Donna could often be found together at yard sales, auctions, and Bingo at the Elks, where Dave was the bingo caller. For several years, they also ran the children's Christmas party at the Elks -- something they truly poured their hearts and souls into, bringing smiles to the faces of many children. Their generosity and love for their community touched many lives.
Dave lived in the area all of his life and graduated from Wells High School in Newell, West Virginia, in 1958, where he was class salutatorian. He was a Christian by faith and an active member of Newell First Church of Christ.
Dave graduated from Westminster College in 1962. Upon graduation, he began his career at Stanton High School, where he made an impact on many young minds as a math teacher, as well as a track and golf coach.
Dave had many passions throughout his life, including golf, watching the Pirates and Steelers, and going to yard sales and auctions. But his greatest love was his wife and family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.
Dave's family would like to extend a special thank you to SouthernCare Hospice for the wonderful care they provided, especially his amazing nurse, Lisa.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at Roberts Funeral Home, with Pastor David Strum of Newell First Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Shadow Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St., Wellsville.
In lieu of flowers, Dave requested that donations in his memory be made to Newell First Church of Christ, PO Box 263, Newell, WV 26050
