Layman "Punk" Eddy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. A strong, proud, hardworking man with a quick sense of humor and a stubborn streak, Punk's greatest joy was his family, whom he loved endlessly.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1963-1966. After being honorably discharged from service, he worked a few odd jobs at Mountaineer Race Track and eventually became a thoroughbred horse trainer at Waterford and Mountaineer Race Track, a career he loved for 19 years where his total purse earnings were over $1.5 million with 700 wins before he retired.
But he will be remembered most by the unconditional love he had for his family. Punk is now reunited with his youngest son, Tim, and the love of his life, Anna, to whom he was married for 61 years. Anna passed away one year and two days before him. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Hazel (Ash) Eddy; his sisters, Beverly (Arlis) Williston and Imogene (Maywood) Kaser; and his brothers, Ronald Eddy and Buddy Eddy.
He leaves behind his children, Ron Eddy (Dale Nusser) of Hookstown, Pa.; Terrie Eddy of Newell; and Penny (Gary) Welsh of Newell; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Eddy of Newell. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah Welsh, Kevin Welsh, Miranda (Ernie) Wise, TJ Eddy, and Hannah Eddy; great-grandchildren Gavon, Lyla, Amelia, and Levi; his sister Sharon (Ed) Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Punk's memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love of the family he leaves behind. He was one of a kind, and he will be missed more than words can say.
No funeral services will be held, per his request.
