Carl E. Childers, 72, of Chester, W.Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 7, 1954, in Weirton, Carl was the son of Barbara "Bobbie" Ward Childers of Weirton and the late Clarence Eugene Childers. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Scott Mills, and brother-in-law, Dennis Mills.
Carl was a graduate of Oak Glen High School. He retired from Ergon, where he worked as an operator, dedicating 48 years of faithful service to the company.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Carl was a faithful member of New Cumberland Christian Church, where he served as an elder. He loved his Lord deeply, and his faith was evident in the way he lived, loved, and cared for others.
Carl was a man who enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking and building things. He loved golfing and, most of all, spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and took great joy in creating special memories with them. He was known for organizing fun games and activities for his family, always bringing laughter and excitement to their time together. Carl was funny, outgoing, and full of life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Carl will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 39 years, Eileen Mae Hartung Childers. He will also be lovingly remembered by his children, Carl Alan Childers (Amanda) of Grant, Mich.; Andrew Vulgamore (Dana) of East Liverpool; Chris Childers (Brandy Tilley) of Gardner, Ill.; Frederick Vulgamore (Michelle) of Rock Hill, S.C.; and Ryan Childers (Katelyn) of Scott Depot, W.Va.
He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Linsey Barnhouse (Alex), Peyton Vulgamore, Brody Vulgamore, Caitlin Childers, Chloe Childers, Savannah Childers, Kash Childers, Kieler Childers, Hazel Childers, Lucy Childers, Jaxon Vulgamore, and Riley Vulgamore.
Carl is also survived by his brother, Mark Childers (Glenda); sisters, Barbara Childers-Mills and Karen Witherow (Jim); as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Carl's life was a testament to faith, family, hard work, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with his Lord and Savior. The memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at New Cumberland Christian Church, 100 S. Court Street, New Cumberland, WV 26047.
Carl was in the compassionate care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
