Mary Kay Cunningham, 68, of Chester, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Weirton Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born on Dec. 15, 1957, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Mary Kay was the beloved daughter of the late Homer and Kathryn (Motz) Wyand.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Wyand, and sisters, Barb Deemer and Betty Pierson.
A proud graduate of East Liverpool High School's Class of 1976, Mary Kay continued her education at Kent State University. Mary Kay formerly worked at Murray Trucking Inc. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in East Liverpool, where her faith helped guide her throughout her life.
Mary Kay was a member of the St. Stephen's choir where her beautiful voice was cherished by all at the church and Jr. Bears football games during the national anthem.
Mary Kay found her greatest joy in her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and incredibly proud NaNa whose happiest moments were spent cheering from the sidelines as her son and grandchildren played the sports they loved. Their biggest fan, she rarely missed an opportunity to encourage them, celebrate their accomplishments, and remind them how deeply they were loved.
She was also a dedicated member of the Newell Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, where she enjoyed serving her community and forming lasting friendships. Mary Kay had a gentle heart, a special love for animals, and a gift for making those around her feel welcomed and cared for. Her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always.
Mary Kay leaves behind her husband, Gary L. Cunningham, whom she married on Aug. 1, 1980, and with whom she shared nearly 46 years of marriage. She is also survived by her cherished son, Brian Cunningham and his wife, Jennifer; her beloved grandchildren, Easton and Emerie Cunningham, who brought immeasurable joy to her life; her sisters, Linda Fisher (Buddy) and Nancy Yanni; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Mary Kay's life on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
