Dorothy "Jean" Irwin of East Liverpool passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at East Liverpool City Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Nov. 13, 1946, at East Liverpool City Hospital, Jean was the beloved second daughter of Norman and Betty Wright Fitch. From an early age, her compassionate spirit and kind heart touched those around her.
She graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1964, as part of one of the largest classes of 365 students. Jean cherished her roots, spending most of her life in the community she loved. After moving to Glenmoor in 1955 from Pennsylvania, she made lasting friendships and fond memories. She also enjoyed an adventurous two-year chapter living in California before returning home.
Throughout her life, Jean was a dedicated and hardworking individual, holding various positions in the area. She concluded her career at CVS in Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania, where she was known for her kindness and strong work ethic, retiring in 2010 after 13 years of service.
Jean was an active member of several women's bowling leagues in the 1970s and 80s, enjoying friendly competition at Tri-State Lanes and Friendly Lanes. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, whom she cherished deeply. Jean's faith as a Christian was a guiding light in her life. She is lovingly remembered by her two children, Brian Michael of West Virginia and Tawnya Jean of East Liverpool; her stepson, Tim Kessel of Salem; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce Coleman of East Liverpool, Barbara Agee of Virginia, Diana Gregrowo of New York, and Peg Boyd of Texas; two brothers, Norman "Chip" Fitch and Tom Fitch, both of East Liverpool; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her former husband, Mike Irwin, and her sister, Helen Coggins. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
Jean's wishes were that no services be held. The Arner Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
