1945-2026

James R. Wilkes, 80, of East Liverpool, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on Oct. 13, 1945, in East Liverpool, James was the son of the late Charles and Evelyn Hawk Wilkes. He was also preceded in death by his beloved brothers, John, Arthur “Ace,” and Charles Wilkes and by his sister, Sonja Wilkes.

James attended Wellsville High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he devoted many years to General Motors, where his hard work and dedication earned him the respect of his coworkers until his retirement.

A man of simple pleasures and unwavering loyalty, James was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan who rarely missed a game. He had a true passion for working on and selling cars, finding both satisfaction and joy with both.

Above all else, James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. On Dec. 21, 1963, he married the love of his life, Eleanor M. Wilson Wilkes, beginning a marriage that spanned more than six decades and was built on enduring love, commitment, and countless cherished memories.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Christy Pease (Ron); his son, Jim “Buck” Wilkes; his treasured grandchildren, Alex Morris (Courtney), Natalie Pease, Zach Pease (Sarah), Kennedy Wilkes, and Leo Wilkes, along with their mother, Lee Wilkes. James was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Benson Morris and Oliver Winterburn, and his dog, Sophie, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

James will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady work ethic, love of family, and the kindness he shared with those who knew him. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

In accordance with James’s wishes, private services were held. He was entrusted to the compassionate care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.

Though he is no longer with us, James’s love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.
