Scott Paul Barnett passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, at the age of 63.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio, on May 27, 1962, Scott grew up watching the barges float by on the Ohio River and exploring the banks of Yellow Creek and the Appalachian foothills in Wellsville, Ohio. No matter where life took him, Wellsville remained his hometown. The friends he made there during his youth remained in his heart all his days, and his warm, friendly nature earned him many more friends throughout his life.
After high school, Scott moved to Bremen, Georgia, where he married and raised two children, Jarred and Jessica Taylor. He purchased a beautiful wooded property where they all lived and where he often photographed the wildflowers that grew there. He was deeply proud of his land and built a life there for his family through his work in construction.
In time, Scott was blessed with grandchildren when Jarred married and had two daughters, Lila and Laney Taylor, and Jessica married and had a son, Cole Jones. He deeply loved his “grandbabies,” who called him “Pap,” and often saw much of himself in his tall, strong grandson. Cole was the apple of Scott’s eye. Family was his world.
Scott had a deep love for his parents, John and Louise Barnett. No one held a bigger place in his heart than his Momma. Scott and his sister, Lynnelle Barnett, shared a love for God that bound them closely until her passing in September 2013. He mourned her loss for the rest of his days. Soon after Lynnelle’s passing, his heart was broken again when his big brother, John Barnett, passed away in December 2014. And now his remaining siblings, Kelly Barnett and Michael Barnett, are heartbroken to have lost him as well.
Though many family members lived far away, Scott’s loving personality embedded him deeply in their hearts, making him a constant presence in their lives regardless of the miles between them. His nieces and nephews — Jovanna Bearden; Sara, Michelle, Joey, Taylor, and Mason Longo; Emma Bibb; Christi, Aarial, Derek, and Gauge Boyer; and Michael Davis — will forever have happy stories to share about their Uncle Scott.
Not a day went by without Scott thanking his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and telling others how much he loved God.
Scott’s last days were spent at home on his beautiful wooded property, with winter ending and the flowers he loved quietly awakening. With his best friend by his side — his dear dog, Piggy — Scott passed peacefully at home and is now in the presence of God.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Scott’s life on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Northside Church, 702 Orchard Grove Avenue, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m.
