Chris Elliot Thornberry
1959–2026
Chris Elliot Thornberry was born on Oct. 7, 1959, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the third of four children to William and Janet Thornberry (nee Heidel). He was known for his genuine nature, love of history, quick wit, and strong opinions.
He grew up playing Little League baseball and went on to excel in high school athletics, earning varsity letters in track and cross country, and playing varsity basketball. In his senior year, he was named East Liverpool High School Athlete of the Year. He later attended Miami University, earning a degree in business.
Chris spent most of his career in the furniture industry, working in the Toledo area, San Diego, and later in Wexford, Pennsylvania. He had a natural ability to connect with people and a way of making others feel comfortable. He didn’t just sell furniture; he helped people create homes, the kind where life unfolds, and memories are made.
He held a deep pride in his daughters, Ellen, Clara, and Olivia, and cherished memories of their orchestra performances, piano and violin recitals, which he often shared. He especially shared a love for “The Lord of the Rings” with his daughter, Ellen.
Music was a defining part of Chris’s life from an early age. In high school, he performed in multiple musicals and was selected as a member of the All-Ohio Youth Choir, already showing the talent and presence that would stay with him throughout his life. A gifted tenor, he later sang in the praise band at his church in Perrysburg and as a member of the Chancel Choir at La Jolla Presbyterian Church. His voice brought warmth and beauty to those who had the privilege of hearing it.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, William and Janet Thornberry. He is survived by his daughters, Ellen, Clara, and Olivia; his brothers, Scott (Nanci) and Dean (Janine); his sister, Cindy Brogan (Jim); and many nieces and nephews who will remember him with love.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. And while his absence is felt here, it is comforting to imagine that heaven has gained a new tenor. One whose voice will continue to bring harmony and grace.
