Samuel O. Gillespie

1937-2026

Samuel O. Gillespie, 89, of Chester, passed away at his residence on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026.

Born Jan. 6, 1937, in Wellsburg, he was the son of the late James Orie Gillespie and Dorothy Amelia Scott Gillespie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Iona Mae Gillespie; his grandson, Chase Elliot Young; his brothers, Harry George, James Robert, and Joseph Clark Gillespie; and his sisters, A. Marie Gillespie and Mary Elizabeth Tuttle.

Sam formerly worked at Crucible Steel, and he owned and operated B&G Used Auto Parts. He loved the old cars, working at the junkyard, and his customers. He was a faithful member of Christ the King Anglican Church in Columbiana. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Crystal Dawn Gillespie Bishop (Ricky Roy Bishop) of Chester; step-grandson, Justin Roy Bishop; brothers, William Frederick Gillespie of Georgetown and John Louis Gillespie of Georgetown; and sister, Judith Ann Mushing of Midland. Sam will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the quiet kindness he shared with those who knew him.

We will celebrate Sam’s life on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at the Arner Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Father John Harris will preside catholic funeral rites. Interment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
