1934-2026
Ronald Smith Shinton of Herndon, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at the age of 91.
Ron was born on Dec. 21, 1934, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1953. After graduation, he briefly attended Kent State University before enlisting in the United States Army. Following his military service, Ron studied at Devry University in Chicago, Ill.
A hardworking and devoted family man, Ron was never afraid to roll up his sleeves and worked tirelessly for the good of those he loved, always putting family first. He retired in 2000 after a long and successful career as a Computer Technician with Unisys. Ron was a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.
Ron was the son of the late Smith Wheeler-Hill and Mary Leota Shinton. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Markanton Shinton; his sister, Marcia Leota Allison; brothers-in-law Dale Allison, Chris Markanton and Gus Markanton; and sister-in-law Roxanne Markanton. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Helen Markanton and Marion Markanton.
Ron was a loving and devoted father to Jeff Shinton (Lori), Tina La'Mon (Pete), and Kelly Berklite (Rob). He was a great and good man who taught his children to live lives of courage, honor, love, and kindness. He also taught them simple but lasting lessons -- together they shared all the moments that make childhood special with a truly great dad.
Ron was a proud and attentive grandfather to Alec, Thomas, Taryn, Jessica, Michael, and Derek. He attended both the major milestones and the everyday moments of their lives with immense pride and unwavering support.
We are blessed beyond measure to have loved and been loved by this remarkable man.
