Reverend Dr. Richard Lee Shipley and Marylin Ellen Shipley
Spouses Reverend Dr. Richard Lee Shipley, 91, and Marylin Ellen Shipley (nee Phelps), 90, of Hudson, passed away within hours of each other Monday, Feb. 9, 2026. Richard and Marylin were married for 69 years. They met at Nyack College in New York and spent their lives as a team.
He earned a doctorate in theology from Chicago Theological Seminary. He served at Longs Run Presbyterian in Calcutta, Ohio and founded the Hudson Presbyterian Church in 1981. Marylin earned her master’s in teaching from Geneva College and was a lifelong elementary school teacher at Beaver Local. She was the organist at most churches where Richard served.
They are the devoted parents of Samuel (Amy) Shipley and John (Marcy) Shipley; cherished grandparents of nine and great-grandparents of 16. They are preceded in death by Marylin’s siblings Margaret, Donald, Ruth, and Allen, and Richard’s siblings John, Sam, and Virgil. They are survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends on Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, 21 Aurora St., Hudson, Ohio where funeral services will begin at noon. Service and Internment at Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church, 15851 Longs Church Rd, Calcutta, OH 43920 at noon on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.
