Daniel Richard ‘Dick’ Gourley
Daniel Richard “Dick” Gourley, 93, of East Liverpool, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2026 at East Liverpool Hospital. He was born in East Liverpool, the son of the late Clayton and Clara Gourley. He attended East Liverpool High School and then joined the United States Army in 1949, serving until 1953. His service took him to Korea where he was with the 7th Infantry Division.
Dick married Bobbie Kate in 1952 and they returned to East Liverpool in 1953. Dick worked at Crucible Steel as a crane operator, and then became a crane operator and maintenance mechanic at Mackintosh Hemp Hill of Midland, Pa., until retiring in 1985.
Dick enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter his entire life. He loved those things not just for the thrill of the catch, but for the quiet peace that was brought to his soul when in nature. Long before sunrise he could often be found in a tree stand or casting his line in the water. Whether he returned home with a trophy or a simple story, he was happiest when surrounded by nature.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sandra (Randy) Sprouse, Lana (Robert) Wagner, and David Gourley; grandchildren: Danny, Steven, Jamie, Suzie, Jason, Richard, Clayton, and Terry. He also leaves 19 great-grandchildren and two “on the way” as well as his brother, Junior Clayton (Vera) Gourley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation in Calcutta. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, with Pastor Chad Froelich officiating. Dick will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will be present to accord military honors.
