William F. Patrick

William F. Patrick, 77, passed away on Dec. 7, 2025 after a long illness. He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, but lived most of his adult life in West Akron. He was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he made lifelong friends, spent a year as a foreign exchange student in France and earned his Baccalaureate Degree.

Bill, or "Bookie" as his family and friends called him, was a prolific reader, fitness enthusiast and lively conversationalist. He loved to cook, hike and garden. His flowerpots at his home on Marvin Avenue were legendary. In his 60s he managed to train and participate in several Akron Marathons and would show you his medals with pride.

He was preceded in death by his one true love, partner and friend, Todd Jones in 1994. He cared for his beloved mother, Bernice Patrick, and his father, William Patrick, throughout their lives. His brothers Charles M. Walsh and James Patrick also preceded him in death.

Bookie was a one-of-a-kind character and certainly never failed to make an impression on anyone he met. He faced all of life's challenges head on, with strength and determination. He was funny, unique, independent, stubborn and oh, so smart.

He is survived by his Akron cousins Pola (Mike) Ochsenhirt, Tamara (Tom) Slopek, nephew Michael (Debbie) Walsh, as well as many cousins and second-cousins in Nevada, Arizona, California, Maryland and Ohio.

Our deepest thanks to his caregivers at the Village of St. Edward Skilled Nursing Center, and the doctors and nurses at Summa Hospice Care, as well as his dear friends Rusty Weitzel, Jim Cauffield and Bob Rovito, who never failed to support him and lift his spirits with calls, visits and goodies.

A Memorial Service will take place Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026. We will gather at the Hummel Funeral Home Fairlawn located at 2800 W. Market St. Fairlawn, OH 44333 at 10 a.m. and process to Greenlawn Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., which is located at 2580 Romig Road, Akron, OH 44320. Please refer to www.HummelCares.com for full obituary.
