1947-2026

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — Sherry L. Palmer, 78, of East Liverpool, passed away on Monday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.

Sherry was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on Nov. 28, 1947, a daughter of the late Paul and Estella Ruth (Woodward) Shuman. Sherry was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1965. She studied at Kent State University and Franciscan University and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Dayton. She was a teacher in the East Liverpool City School District for 40 plus years until her retirement in 2010. Sherry was Presbyterian by faith. She was a member of the OEA and the NEA, and the Women of the Moose #642. Sherry loved kids and really enjoyed being a teacher. She was an avid Steelers fan. Sherry enjoyed traveling, going to the river, sitting by a fire and helping her husband work in the garden.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 27 years, whom she married July 22, 1998, James Palmer; son Brett Smith; stepdaughter Victoria Palmer; stepson Michael (Sarah) Palmer; three grandchildren Austin Smith, Shawn Palmer, and James M. Palmer; sister Paula Click and her husband Charles Jr., and two brothers, Forrest L. Shuman and Allen B. Shuman and his wife Annetta; sister-in-law Sandra Bragg; best friend Nancy Evans and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 2 until the time of service at 5:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor John Smith. Private burial at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service the family will gather at the Moose Lodge 122 for a time of fellowship.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Sherry.
