Margaret Ann ‘Peg’ Milby
Margaret Ann “Peg” Milby, 97, of New Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Orchards of East Liverpool, surrounded by her family.
Peg was born to the late Frank and Mary Jane Eaton McDonald.
Along with her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, William J. (Bill) Milby, who passed away on Nov. 30, 2010. She is also preceded by her son-in-law, Keith Anderson, and her siblings: Gayle Treleven, Arlene Copestick, Forrest McDonald, and James F. McDonald.
Peg graduated from Chester High School and became a cadet nurse, graduating from the East Liverpool City Hospital Nursing program in 1948. She devoted many years as a caring staff nurse on Five East at City Hospital. Peg was a member of the American Legion Post 121 Ladies Auxiliary in Chester and the East Liverpool YMCA for over 25 years, where she enjoyed swimming, water aerobics, and the friendships that she made. She was a member of the Women’s Club of New Cumberland and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Peg loved singing in many minstrel shows, was an avid reader, and an artist.
Peg is survived by three sons — Dick (Becky) Milby of Denton, Texas; Bill (Brittany) Milby of Arlington, Va.; and Joe Milby of Littleton, N.H. — and four daughters — Bonnie (Dave) Burskey of New Cumberland; Nancy Anderson of Bethesda, Ohio; Mary Kay Shaw (Keith Cline) of Siesta Key, Fla.; and Sue (Phil) Shoemaker of Winter Park, Fla. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren, including her Godson, Dylan Burskey. She is also remembered by five step-great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Ted Milby of San Diego, Calif., her beloved niece, Cindy Rice of East Liverpool, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday, Jan. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 pm. Father Bill Matheny will lead a Catholic Funeral Liturgy at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Cumberland on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. After the Mass, Peg will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Bill at Locust Hill Cemetery, reunited in peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the American Cancer Society @donatecancer.org, in memory of her Mother and in Honor of her grandson’s wife, Brook, or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church @1016 Ridge Ave., New Cumberland, WV 26047.
