Helen M. Cataldo
1929-2025
WELLSVILLE -- Helen M. Cataldo, 96, of Wellsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 20, 1929, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Angelo "Coke" and Mary (Barborak) Ross. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two daughters: Marianne Dillon and Vickie McCombs; as well as two sisters: Lenora Hopper and Joanne Daniels.
Helen graduated from Wellsville High School in 1947. She was previously employed as a ware worker for the former Sterling China Pottery and as a clerk at Pottery Center. She had also been employed as an aide in the Wellsville Local School District. Helen was a member of various card clubs and enjoyed playing Tripoley. She always looked forward to the weekend getaways she shared with her daughters to area casinos. Helen was an avid cookie baker, and she baked hundreds of dozens of cookies for people in the area for holidays and weddings. She was also well known in Wellsville for her ear piercing capabilities. Her family was everything to her, and Helen cherished every moment she got to spend with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and she attended Holy Trinity Parish.
Survivors include her children: Debi McVay of Negley, Sandy (Tick) Smith of Wellsville, Therese DeFelice of East Liverpool, Shelly (Joe) Abdalla of Wellsville, and Tony (Malissia Shannon) Cataldo of Wellsville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Michael DeFelice, who was her caregiver, Stephanie Mullen, Nicholas DeFelice, Christine DeFelice, Danielle Dillon, Matthew Dillon, Jamison McCombs, Jennifer Polzak, Anthony Cataldo, Joseph Abdalla, and Maria Scarabino; as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
The Catholic Funeral Rites will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Father Bernard Gaeta presiding.
Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St. in Wellsville.
Helen's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mercy Health Hospice of the Valley for the compassionate care they provided to Helen in her final days.
