Mary L. Thayer

EAST LIVERPOOL — Mary L. Thayer, 97, of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2025, at Calcutta Health Care Center. She was 97 years old.

Born in East Liverpool, February 3, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Grace Derouin Burris. She was a member of Boyce Church. Mary volunteered and later worked at the East Liverpool City Hospital snack bar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Thayer, on July 19, 1988. The couple married July 30, 1949. She was also preceded by a daughter, Connie McDevitt and two sons, William F. “Bill” Thayer and Gary T. Thayer; her sister, Joyce Osburn and two brothers, Homer “Sonny” Burris and Robert Burris.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Sally Ann Murray and her husband, Robert, of Lisbon, and Joyce Louise Thayer of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and a son, Richard C. “Dick” Thayer and his wife, Karen, of Calcutta. There are two grandsons, Rich (Aron) and Tyler Thayer (Brittany), as well as great-grandchildren: Grayson Thayer, Cassius Thayer, Landon Sayre, Noah Sayre, and Greg Sayre. She is also survived by a brother, Paul Burris of East Liverpool.

Evangelist Will Montgomery will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery.
