John F. Benedetto

1931-2025

WELLSVILLE — John F. Benedetto, 94, of Wellsville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at Calcutta Health Care Center.

He was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Wampum, Pa., the son of the late Frank and Teresa (Cavalier) Bennett. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers: Guy Bennett and Mike Benedetto; and four sisters: Lucy Tammaro, Josephine Crea, Angeline DeFilippo, and Mary Maria.

John was previously employed for 33 years as a storeroom clerk at Titanium Metals and then as a mutual clerk at Mountaineer Racetrack and Casino until his full retirement.

John was a hard worker and an active family man. His Italian heritage and family were the most important things to him. The family was always together every Sunday after church for family dinners and spent spare time vacationing together every year to make memorable cherished moments. John was also a member of the Wellsville Sons of Italy Lodge 657 and enjoyed spending time there with family & friends. He loved walking daily and enjoyed watching & betting thoroughbred horse racing. John was a big Pittsburgh Steeler & Pittsburgh Pirate fan as well as an avid fan of Notre Dame football.

John was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, Ohio and currently Sacred Heart Church in Chester, W.Va.

Survivors include his wife, Rose M. (Lombardozzi) Benedetto, whom he married June 23, 1951; his children: Teresa (David) Morris of Wellsville, Frank (Ruth) Benedetto of East Liverpool, and Cyndi (Paul) Rosa of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Kelly Morris, David Morris, Holly (Wayne) Dryden, Joshua (Brittney) Benedetto, Alexis (Kody) Gorden, and Jessica (Tyler) Chevront; 11 great-grandchildren: Jaminlee Morris, Trent Morris, Allyssa (Issac) Morris, Caylyn Dryden, Jackson Morris, Enzo Benedetto, Grey Gorden, Elijah Benedetto, Navy Gorden, Emilia Chevront, and Elias Chevront; and one great-great-granddaughter, Carly Ritchie.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff, nurses, aides and crew who treated him like family at Calcutta Health Care Center. They made him feel a part of their genuine self keeping and special attention care for the last four years. It’s greatly appreciated by the family. Also, the family would like to express their gratitude to Southern Care Hospice for facilitating his peaceful transition in his final days.

The catholic funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church, 418 4th St., Chester, WV 26034, with Father Bill Matheny presiding. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St. in Wellsville.
