Anna Bell Eddy

1943-2025

Anna Bell Eddy, 82, of Newell, passed away Sept. 18, 2025, after a long illness. She was born on June 11, 1943, in Mann, W.Va., the daughter of the Late Clyde and Ethel (Aldrige) Bailey. Besides her parents, she is now reunited with her son, Timothy; brothers, Donald, Dallas, Port and Jackie Bailey; and a sister, Dorothy Blankenship.

Anna, started her work life in the Department of the Navy in DC. For 39 years, she worked at the Newell Post Office, where she knew nearly everyone by name and treated each customer as a friend. Beyond her work, to her family she was simply “Granny” — a beautiful soul whose blue eyes sparkled with kindness and whose laughter filled every room. She knew hardship, yet always gave warmth and light. Her heart was huge, her love steady, and her generosity unmatched. She lived to give, at Christmas, no floor was bare of gifts when Granny was near. She gave warm coats to the cold, shoes to those without and love to all who needed it. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Newell.

Anna Bell leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years, Layman “Punk” Eddy, a son Ron (Dale) Eddy of Hookstown; and her daughters, Terrie Eddy of Newell and Penny (Gary) Welsh of Newell; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Eddy of Newell. She was the proud grandmother of Sarah Beth Welsh, Kevin Welsh, Miranda (Ernie) Wise, T.J. Eddy and Hannah Eddy, and the cherished great-grandmother of Gavon, Lyla and Amelia. She was also survived by dear friends, Mary Tice and Nancy Swan and life-long friend, Willie Batts.

She was an Angel among us long before she ever earned her wings. Her compassion, laughter and unwavering love brightened the world for everyone blessed to know her. Though she has left for heavens above, her love remains here with us, in our stories, our laughter and memories we’ll forever keep. Her spirit lingers in the hearts she touched, it is a guiding star reminding us that true love never fades.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025 at the Nixon Funeral Home of Newell, from 4 p.m. to time of service at 6 p.m.
