Robert (Bob) Smith, a cherished member of the East Liverpool community, was called to his eternal rest suddenly at his house on July 2, 2025 after he enjoyed a full day of working on his yard and in his garden. He was born on May 1, 1938, in the family home just a few hundred feet from where he passed. He lived a fulfilling 87 years, leaving behind a legacy of hard-work and dedication to his family, church, and community.
Bob was a 1956 graduate of East Liverpool High School. He was an owner and operator of Smith's Farm Supply, which he operated with his brothers, Warren and Wilson, with pride and diligence for over 50 years. He started working after school at age 14 and dedicated his life to being an honest businessman working both in the mill and delivering fuel oil to many local residents.
If you knew Bob, you know that he had many interests and he was happiest when he was working. His passion was his garden which was always picture perfect. He took great joy in sharing his harvest with everyone he knew and everyone he met. He also loved fishing and camping, and he embraced the opportunity to travel with his wife, Kay, whether it be on cruises or bus trips. They explored everything from Alaska to the Panama Canal making many friends along their travels. In the years post retirement, he filled his free time with wood-working, making crafts, walking and supporting Beaver Local events
A faithful Christian, Bob was a lifelong member of Glenmoor Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully as treasurer for 45 years. He started each day reading his Bible and daily spent time thanking God for the many blessings in his life.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mabel (Brittian) Smith; brothers, Harry, J.Warren, and Wilson Smith (Mary); and sisters, Donna McVay (Bob), Betty Smith, and Pauline (Bill) Pickering.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, Kay (Bunfill) Smith, whom he married on April 1, 1960. Over 65 years together they built a beautiful life and family. Left to cherish his memory are their children: son Craig (Sally) Smith, and daughters Sharon (Paul) Matte, Nancy (Richard) Parsons, Beth (Dan) Barber and Carrie (Richard) Potts. He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy (Norman) Reynolds and Marilyn (Dan) Stambaugh, and sister-in-law Helen Smith.
Bob's legacy extends to his grandchildren: Phillip, Jason, Rachel, Benjamin, Sean, Alysia, Dalton, Joshua, Katie, Sadie, and Kayden, and to his great-grandchildren: Issac, Kyler, Logan, Leah, and Beckett. Each will carry forward the values and love he instilled in them.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, due to an allergy, donations can be made to Glenmoor Presbyterian Church in Mr. Smith's memory.
