JoAnn Fickes, born on July 10, 1934, in Wellsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 90 at Calcutta Health Care. She was the youngest of nine children born to the late Charles and Lena (Haught) McWilliams.
JoAnn was a 1952 graduate of Wellsville High School. She dedicated many years of her life working as a gold liner in the decal department of Homer Laughlin China Company until her retirement.
An avid bingo player, JoAnn found joy in the game and cherished the friendships she made through it. Her creativity and skill shone through her self-taught quilting, where she won numerous awards for her beautiful pieces. She was also an active member of local card clubs, where she spent many enjoyable hours with friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Fickes, who passed away in 2010; her son, Raymond Fickes; her eight siblings, and her grandson, Ray Fickes Jr.
JoAnn is survived by her son, Donald (Debbie) Fickes of East Liverpool; three granddaughters: Jennifer (Dustin) Tedrow of East Liverpool, Nicole (Chas) Boots of Pennsylvania, and Amber (Brian) Batchelor of North Carolina; three great-grandchildren: Brentlee, Chloe, and Quinton. She is also survived by her close friend, Gail Grimm.
Visitation will be held at the MacLean Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists, Riverside Avenue in Wellsville, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a funeral service following at 7 p.m. with Pastor David Quillen officiating. Family and friends are also invited to meet on Friday, July 11 at 11 a.m. for burial at Yellow Creek Cemetery, state Route 45, Wellsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations be made in JoAnn's name to: First Free Methodist Church, 16260 St. Clair Ave., East Liverpool, OH 43920.
