Helen Stenger

1933-2025

EAST LIVERPOOL — Helen Stenger of East Liverpool passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at Crossroads at Beaver Creek. She was 92 years old.

She was born on March 21, 1933, a daughter of the late David and Elizabeth Finley Owen of Steubenville. She graduated from Steubenville High School in 1951.

Helen served as Superintendent of Riverview Cemetery from 1985 until her retirement in May 2019. She enjoyed representing the cemetery, and paid special attention to the grounds, as she walked many times a day, taking note of anything that needed attention.

She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of East Liverpool. Prior to the merger of the two churches, she was a loyal, active member of the Orchard Grove Methodist Church. Her church and the church family were extremely important to her. Serving the Lord in every capacity; she was a faithful member of the choir, taught Sunday school class for 50 years, and was a communion steward for many years.

Most of all, Helen cherished the time she spent with her family. She treasured family game nights, walks in the cemetery, or just an evening out together.

Helen was active in many East Liverpool community organizations. She served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, was a member of the Quota Club, New Century Club, Colloquium Club, East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary, and the East Liverpool Historical Society. She also contributed desserts to Meals on Wheels.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm “Jim” Stenger; a sister, Margaret Capozzi; and two brothers, Charles and Walter Owen.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: son Michael (Connie) Stenger and daughter Janis (Kim) Pridemore; grandchildren Erin (Brian) Stauffer, Kevin (Brittany) Pridemore, Ryan (Melissa) Stenger, Chris (Deanna) Sanford, Paige (Nathan) Beers, Mary (Brent) Durbin, and William (Waka) Taylor; great-grandchildren Harley Buzzard, Blake Stauffer, Max Stenger, Keirstin (Shaun) Polocy, Buddy (Lexi) Longstreet, McKenzie (Tim) Eichele, Leah (Spencer) DeSalvo, Cole and Ben Beers, Connor, Caleb, and Carson Durbin; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pastor Claudia Britton will officiate a service at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at the Dawson Funeral Home where Judy Kidder will offer a personal eulogy. Friends may visit two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery. Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a celebration of Helen’s life.

Helen’s family is extremely grateful for the care provided by Crossroads and Akeso Hospice. The staff went above and beyond to care for her.
