William K. (Bill) Derrington

1954-2025
William K. (Bill) Derrington, 70, of Newport, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Bill was born on Dec. 16, 1954, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He was the only son of Don and Helen Cunningham Derrington. He graduated from East Liverpool High School and then joined the United States Air Force where he served as an aircraft maintenance technician. His passion for airplanes continued for the rest of his life.
Bill’s education included learning industrial drafting and he used those skills in his work with companies including Proctor & Gamble, Bayer, and General Electric at locations such as Boston, Cincinnati, and Columbus. He was always very appreciative for the opportunity he was given to work at Momentive (formerly Union Carbide). He made many close friends there and was given scores of opportunities to enhance his well-developed skills in drafting, pipe design, and project management. He retired in August, 2023.
Bill was very devoted to his family. He enjoyed going to the grandchildren’s ball games, tent camping, watching good movies, and traveling. He loved to take Caribbean cruises, and he enjoyed describing the 3,500-mile road trip that he and his wife took to Nova Scotia. He also liked to travel to the mountains of West Virginia, and to Amish country. He enjoyed activities and conversations with neighbors, friends from his younger years, relatives, former work associates, and church friends. He also just loved to sit on his back porch and “chat” with the birds. He had been very devoted to his 12-year-old miniature schnauzer, Seymore.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jane; his three children: Eric (Lisa) Derrington, Kristy (Randy) Zakrzewski, and Dan (Jada) Derrington; step-children: Karen (Tim) Shrimpton and Jonathan McGoldrick; grandchildren: Chandler Derrington, Chase Derrington, Tatum Derrington, Michael J. (Candace) Foreman, Ashlyn Foreman, Liam Derrington, Cooper Derrington; step-grandchildren: Alex Shrimpton, Oliver Shrimpton, Jake Wilson; sisters: Janet (Wayne) Christen, Debbie Stewart, and Missy (Mark) O’Hanlon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter-in-law, Natalie Derrington, and one step-daughter, Lydia Wilson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta with Rev. Mike Seely officiating. Bill requested that his ashes be distributed in the Caribbean Sea near the location where his father’s ashes were dispensed.
