Pam (Bowen, Amos) Smith, 65, passed away unexpectedly and much too soon on Monday, June 23, 2025. Pam was a fun, beautiful, selfless person full of life and loved spending her time with family and friends.
She was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on Sept. 2, 1959, grew up in Eden Valley in New Cumberland, W.Va., graduated from Oak Glen High School, and then lived in Chester, W.Va., for many years raising two wonderful daughters. She was their biggest cheerleader and inspired with unwavering support that they could accomplish anything. Pam most recently lived in Mineral City, Ohio, near New Philadelphia and loved staying active, taking care of her charming gardens and home, or relaxing on her boat on nearby Atwood Lake.
Pam excelled at East Liverpool City Hospital in a long career working in the Business Office and then Payroll and Human Resources before becoming the Vice President of Operations. Following her service at East Liverpool, she worked as a Vice President at Harrison Community Hospital before slowing down to bask in retirement, which she enjoyed for nearly a decade. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science degree in Operational Excellence from The Ohio State University. Pam volunteered on many community projects throughout her life in the Chester area, as well as in New Philadelphia.
Pam was preceded in death by her father (Donald Bowen) and mother (Shirley (Bradley, Bowen) O'Connell). She leaves behind many friends, her husband who she had many adventures with, Darwin Smith, as well as two daughters, Lindsay (Adam) Vulgamore of Mooresville, N.C., and Kara (Carl) Mumford of Chester, W.Va., who will miss her every day. She had one beautiful granddaughter, (Maci Mumford) with whom she was best of friends. She was a fabulous mom and Mimi and will be lovingly remembered for her sparkle, genuine kindness, contagious smile and love for all of the little things in life.
A gathering to celebrate Pam's life will be held at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, followed by a service at 11 a.m. She will rest in the New Cumberland Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Hancock County Animal Shelter or the Magic Tree Community Garden in New Cumberland, W.Va. She is in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
