Kenneth Sherman Long Sr.

1933-2025

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Kenneth Sherman Long Sr., 92, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025.

He was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the son of the late J. Sherman and Martha (Wycoff) Long. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death in 1974 by his wife, Carol (Whittaker) Long, whom he married in August of 1968. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Thomas N. Long, Emma Jane Sabbato, Wanda Call, and Madeline Shilling.

Ken graduated from Wellsville High School and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was self-employed and owned many real estate properties in the area. Ken was a kind man and was known to help anyone who was down on their luck. He was a former member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge 1040 and the Free and Accepted Masons, and was a lifetime member of the Wellsville American Legion Post 70. He was also a founding member and donor to the Wellsville Alumni Association.

Survivors include his children: Kathy (Jim) Ledbetter of Clearwater, Fla., Kari (Dave) Miller of East Liverpool, and Kenneth S. Long II; and five grandchildren: Pete McKinney, James Ledbetter, Dr. Kristina Ledbetter, Justin (Alexa) Miller, and Ryan (Aeriden) Miller.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Spring Hill Cemetery. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville is entrusted with Ken's arrangements.
