Edith Catherine McCune was born on Jan. 13, 1954, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Floyd and Doris (McDowell) Swiger. Surrounded by the love of her family, she passed peacefully on June 10, 2025, following a year-and-a-half battle with cancer.
She moved to East Liverpool from Johnsonville in 1971 and graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1972. Following graduation, she proudly served in the United States Air Force, where she achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. During her time in the military, she embraced every opportunity to travel, often alongside her best friend and "Sis," Barb.
In the early 1980s, she returned to East Liverpool. She earned her LPN from Jeff Tech in 1982 and began working in the Columbiana County area. Her dedication to nursing led her back to school, and in 1997, she earned her RN from Kent State University. She continued to serve her community through nursing and retired from St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown in 2017.
In 1986, she remarried Tom McCune, and together they lovingly blended their families. They worked hard throughout their lives, always looking forward to their well-earned retirement. They traveled often, with Williamsburg, Virginia, being a favorite destination they returned to time and again.
After retirement she found purpose in giving back to her community. She volunteered at the House of Grace, where she formed deep bonds and lasting friendships while serving the homeless and underprivileged. She was also a passionate gardener and had an extraordinary gift for nurturing plants back to life.
Above all else, her heart belonged to her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Tom McCune; her loving twin daughters, Barbie (Gary) Lutton of Boardman, and Heather Burnham of East Liverpool; and three stepchildren: Jennifer, Kenneth, and Jamie. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Alec Post and Callie Burnham, whose laughter and light filled her days with meaning.
Her absence will be deeply felt by her sister, Emily (Harold) Thomas of Texarkana and her brothers, Floyd (Ginny) Swiger of Melrose, Florida, and Tom (Nina) Swiger of East Liverpool; and her nieces and nephew.
She will be remembered for her boundless kindness, her radiant smile, and her charming habit of always wearing two different earrings-a mystery she never explained. and one that made her all the more unforgettable.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd; her mother, Doris; and her beloved son-in-law, Frank DiMeglio.
In accordance with her wishes, she asked that no one mourn her with tears but instead celebrate her life with joy. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date
