Michael D. Hissom

1980-2025

EAST LIVERPOOL - Michael D. Hissom, of East Liverpool, passed away Monday morning, May 5, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following a brief illness. He was 45 years old.

Born in Salem, Feb. 20, 1980, he was the son of Donna J. Coulter Hissom of East Liverpool and the late Dale R. Hissom. An East Liverpool High School graduate, for 25 years he worked at Homer Laughlin China, most recently as a Kiln Fireman. He was beloved by his co-workers and considered them part of his family. At one time, he was a member of the Liverpool Township Fire Department Station 7 and enjoyed his time at the East Liverpool Yacht Club.

It is known that if you could not find Michael, he could frequently be found in the grandstands of any fair watching the tractor pulls or working in his garage, reluctantly most times on his nieces' vehicles. Above anything else, Michael was a family man through and through. Michael was frequently referred to as a momma's boy, but his love and devotion for his family shined brighter than his heart of gold.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Brandy Bailey and her husband, Bill, of East Liverpool; his fiancee Tyra Reed; two nieces, Jerika Andrews and her husband, Greg, and Haleigh Bailey, and Tyra's sons Jason Reed, and Jarrod Reed, whom he considered a son. He also leaves his great-nephew, Atlas Andrews, as well as an aunt and uncle, Brian and Dianna Starkey.

Friends may visit Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Norman Eckert will conduct a funeral service Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
