Clyde Bonam, 86, of Salineville died at East Liverpool City Hospital on May 1, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Clyde was born in East Liverpool on Oct. 20, 1938, a son of the late Joseph R. Bonam and Bette Mae (Fox) Bonam.
Having lived all his life in the area, Clyde was a graduate of Salineville High School Class of 1956. He started working for Ohio Edison, retiring with 38 years of service as a plant supervisor. After his retirement he also worked for Kerr Pastore Funeral Home and Huntington (Sky) Bank. Clyde sang in a Barbershop quartet called the Salem Jubilee. He had a passion for football. In 1971 Clyde founded the Southern Local Little Indians Football Organization and was instrumental in starting the Ohio/Pennsylvania little league football super bowl. He served on the Southern Local Board of Education for many years. He was also the first board member to represent Southern Local in the Columbiana County Joint Vocational School/CCCTC. Clyde was a lifelong servant of God as a devout member of the Salineville United Methodist Church, sometimes serving as a lay speaker. Clyde also loved to farm and garden on his property.
He was very dedicated to his family of which he will be missed and cherished by: wife Judith Ann (Yoder) Bonam whom he married Feb. 8, 1958 and spent 67 happy years with; sons Mike Bonam of Wellsville, Brian (Judith) Bonam of Wellsville, Joe (Midge) Bonam of Salineville; a daughter, Amy (Jim) Kataro of Salem; a brother, James (Esther) Bonam of Lakeland, Florida; a sister, Nancy Kemp of Mechanicstown; grandchildren Brent Bonam, Brad (Dan) Bonam, James (Jocelynn) Kataro, Lindsay (Zach) Almy, Joseph Kataro, Joshua Kataro, Jacob Kataro, Colton Bonam; great-grandchildren Samuel Kataro, Rilynn Bonam, Alan Kataro and Miley Kataro; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Kerr Watson Funeral Home on Wednesday May 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John E Fitch of the Salineville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday May 6, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m.
