Mary Lou Arcuragi, a cherished member of the East Liverpool community, passed away peacefully at her home on April 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 94. Born on August 4, 1930, in East Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late Gene and Josephine (Sacco) Adams. Mary Lou lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
A graduate of East Liverpool High School, Class of 1948, Mary Lou embarked on a life filled with personal and professional accomplishments. She married her beloved husband, Joseph J. Arcuragi, on September 4, 1948, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories until his passing on August 29, 2000.
Her friendly demeanor made her a beloved face at Varian's Bakery and Bi-Lo's Discount Store, where she greeted each day with warmth and kindness. Mary Lou was known for her diligent work as a bookkeeper for Jean-Pierre and Josee Daniel and O.S Hill and Company. Her impeccable bookkeeping skills, support, and wisdom were also extended to her children whenever they sought her financial guidance.
Her heart was always open to helping others, and she found joy in volunteering her time. Mary Lou was an active presence at the women's auxiliary of American Legion Post 736, where her contributions were deeply appreciated. An amazing seamstress, she lovingly crafted her children's clothes during their adolescent years and delighted in creating several wedding dresses for family and friends.
Her legacy lives on through her children: Thomas E. Arcuragi of Los Angeles, Calif.; Joseph J. (Vani) Arcuragi of Marietta, Ga.; Eugene "Jeep" (Deb) Arcuragi of Toronto, Ohio; and Millie-Jo (Rob) Thornton of East Liverpool. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason (Elizabeth) Arcuragi, Jack (Stephanie) Croxall, Adam Arcuragi, Laura Arcuragi (Eduardo) Brenes, Brianne Kessel, Brandon Kessel, Arabella Arcuragi (Ben) Janes, and Christopher Arcuragi, as well as her great-grandchildren: Andrew, Tori, Layla, Shepherd, Vivienne, Leo, Alora, Maisey, and Deacon. She also leaves behind her sister, Josephine "Patty" Nuzzo.
Along with her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Cornelia Arcuragi and brother-in-law, John Nuzzo.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m., officiated by her nephew, Pastor John Nuzzo, from Victory Family Church of Cranberry Township. Mary Lou will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
