KENT, Ohio -- Lina Elizabeth (Simone) Maley Leonard, 83, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at Kent Ridge Senior Living in Kent, Ohio.
Lina was born in Steubenville on June 29, 1941, a daughter of the late Patric and Lina (Noonan) Simone. In addition to her parents, Lina was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward R. "Ted" Maley; her second husband, Joseph J. Leonard; and brother, Michael N. Simone. Left to cherish Lina's memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Kelley (Maley) and Greg Relyea and grandsons Kai Jeffrey and Austin Edward Relyea, of Stow. She also leaves behind Joe's daughters Tracy (John) Kromalic and Lisa (Steve) Donofe; six grandchildren: Emily (Matt Smedley), John Joseph (Samantha) and Matthew Kromalic; Ava, Reena, and Lola Donofe; and two great-grandchildren: Lilah and Josephine Kromalic. Lina also leaves her sisters-in-law, Eleanor "Lou" Simone, and Mary Rose (Jack) Lorenc, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her "extra" kids, including Mexican exchange student Gabriela (Jose Luis) Matta, who enjoyed her senior year living in East Liverpool with Lina, Ted, and Kelley.
Raised in Toronto, Lina was a graduate of the Steubenville Catholic Central High School Class of 1959. After attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, she used her interior design skills dressing windows at The Hub department store in Steubenville. Later, Lina enjoyed owning and operating Lina's Daycare, first in Steubenville, then East Liverpool, for more than 40 years. She considered the many children that she cared for to be extended family.
Lina enjoyed vacationing on Lake Erie, tending to her beautiful flowers and just being in the sunshine. She was a long-time supporter of Ohio State Buckeyes Athletics, always watching and attending events, including numerous football bowl games throughout the years. She enjoyed participation in church and community organizations including Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, East Liverpool Business and Professional Women, and East Liverpool-Calcutta Area Garden Club. Her other interests included ballroom dancing, book clubs and crafting.
A celebration of life will be held at Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the memorial. A late luncheon will follow at the Dawson Family Center.
Lina's family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Kent Ridge Senior Living, as well as Traditions Hospice. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center, for a time of fellowship.
