EAST LIVERPOOL - Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Donald E Jones Sr. passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at his home on Elson Street surrounded by his children.
Born on April 10, 1931, in his family home of Louisville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Frank and Clara Sharp Jones.
Don served with the U.S. Navy, after the navy he was employed for 32 years at the former Crucible Steel until the plant closing in 1982. He also worked in the x-ray department at East Liverpool City Hospital, a property manager at Meadowood Apartments, winning numerous recognitions and company awards for his gardening skills. Don loved his flowers and maintaining his gardens. Alongside his family, he owned and managed the former Sundance Photography Studio. Don's life was full of selfless service and caring, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years and held numerous positions as an adult leader including serving as an Eagle Scout Honor Court Judge, and volunteering with special needs children at Hart Therapeutic Riding Stables in Lisbon, Ohio. These positions spoke volumes about his caring and giving personality.
A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Pitt Panthers, he found joy in sports along with the annual draft day festivities of the Jones Family Fantasy Football league. His love for the outdoors and the tranquility of nature was profound, identifying him as an avid outdoorsman, and passing that love onto his children and grandchildren. Yet the real warmth of his heart could be felt in the enjoyable moments he spent with his beloved family.
Don cherished planning and organizing family vacations and adventures while raising his family and continuing those skills as his children left the nest with many family vacations/reunions with his children and grandchildren. However, it was his steadfast lessons of respect, generosity, love, and kindness that he shared with others, that truly shaped his legacy. These values continue to live on in his children and grandchildren who he considers his greatest accomplishments.
Donald is survived by his daughter Marcia (Doug) Anderson of Columbiana, Ohio and his sons, Michael (Lori) Jones of Wadsworth, Ohio, Kenneth (Jayne) Jones of Blairsville, Ga, Donald Jones Jr. of East Liverpool, William (MaryBeth) Jones of East Liverpool, and Jeffrey (Mam) Jones of Manassas, Va.
Furthering Don's legacy are 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with number 15 expected to arrive in May and one great-great-granddaughter.
His life was shared with the love of his life Jean Ann (Connor) Jones, their love story beginning on Nov. 14, 1951, until her death on Oct. 11, 2013. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Jennifer Ann Jones.
Undeniably, his commitment to his family, his spirit of giving and his capacity to love are the attributes he will be most remembered for. Don's absence will be deeply felt, but his love and kindness will continue to be an unwavering guide to those left behind. In Don's memory the family asks you to make a gesture of kindness for someone in need.
Per Don's wishes, a private family celebration of life services was held. Pursuant to Don's wishes to be cremated and honoring his love of travel, portions of his remains will be scattered in his birthplace of Louisville, Ky, from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Ca, Las Vegas, NV, Alaska and interred beside Jean at Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool.
Don's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Breanna Keith for helping with his care at home and becoming his bonus daughter. The family extends gratitude to the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Valley for making his final few weeks comfortable for him.
In loving memory of Donald E Jones Sr., a remarkable man who will be greatly missed by his family. His influence continues to inspire, and his memory will always be treasured, he was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories.
