Donald ‘Dean’ Spencer

1948-2025
It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Donald “Dean” Spencer, 76, on April 5, 2025, at Valley Hospice.
Dean was born on Sept. 26, 1948 in Sistersville, Tyler County, West Virginia, the son of the late Edra Crestell Spencer (Cannon) and Imla “Buck” Clinton Spencer.
Dean graduated from Oak Glen High School, class of 1966. He is a veteran of the United States Army and a retiree of Arcelor Mittal USA. He was a member of the Virginia Avenue Church of the Christ. During his lifetime he participated in numerous activities and hobbies including hunting, fishing, coaching baseball, and was the President of the Newell Youth League for several years. Dean also was a member of the Lions Club, Newell Chapter, and volunteered for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s Food Distribution Program.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years before her passing, Sandra “Sandy” Spencer; his brothers, Steven Spencer and Kenneth Spencer; his sisters Alice Smith, Frances Muskgrove; and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Spencer.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Donald Dean Spencer, II (Tammy) of Weirton, West Virginia, Daniel Spencer (Joanna) of Salineville, Ohio; his five grandchildren, Spencer, Zachery, Jonah, Jacob and Hunter; two great-granddaughters, Harper and his precious Octavia “Little O;” his sister Jean Baloff (Texas) along with her children Kim Boyd (Bryan) and Michelle Adair (Jeramy); his second love, Sharon Hall of Wellsville, Ohio along with her children and grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great- nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Virginia Ave Church of Christ, Chester, W.Va. Interment will follow in Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester, W.Va. The Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, W.Va., handled arrangements.
The family request memorial donations may be made to Valley Hospice, the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ Summer Camp or the Charity of your choice in his honor.
