1980-2024

Tawnya M. Jakes, 44, of Wellsville, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer at her residence.

Born on March 14, 1980, in Rochester, Pa., she was the daughter of Tawnie Lynn Groscost Burchett of Beaver and the late Robert Lee Burchett. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Ruby Burchett, and Ronald and Hazel Groscost.

Tawnya graduated from Beaver Valley Christian School and attended Ohio Valley Business College, where she earned a degree in Medical Assisting and became a nurse's aide. She was a Golden Glove boxer for many years and previously worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA. Tawnya was best known for her exceptional decorative skills and her beautiful hair and eyes. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she cherished any moments spent with her children. She was funny and direct but had a deep love for everyone around her.

Tawnya will be missed by her husband, Alan Jakes Jr.; her children, Michael Burchett, Madison Sutter, Xavier Finch, Naudia Finch and Preston Jakes; her stepchildren, Alan Mastalack, Andrew Diegdio (Kennedy), Kerigan Reed and Helena Ritenour; her brothers, Christopher Allen Reed of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Andy Burchett of Beaver Falls; and her sisters-in-law, Natiea Jakes and Alana Matthews (Wayne) of Beaver Falls, Pa.

Pastor John Anderson will celebrate Tawnya's life at the Arner Funeral Chapel on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at 6 p.m. Friends are invited to visit with her family two hours prior to the service, from 4 to 6 p.m.
