Hannah Greenburg

1930-2024

Hannah Greenburg died April 21, 2024, in Scottsdale, AZ, after a brief illness.

Hannah Turk was born November 14, 1930, in East Liverpool, Ohio. She attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. degree in merchandising.

She worked as a buyer at Associated Merchandising Corp in New York City, where she met her husband, Leo Greenburg. They were married in 1956 and spent the first months of their marriage in Germany, where Leo was stationed in the US Army. They then moved to East Liverpool, where Hannah began her long career as a "professional volunteer."

The primary beneficiary of her services was the East Liverpool City Hospital. She was the buyer and manager of the hospital's gift shop from 1969 to1991; proceeds during her tenure contributed at least $100,000 annually to the hospital. She served as president of the women's auxiliary and, in 1972, was the first woman appointed to the hospital's board of directors. She served as chairman from1985-1987 and 1990-1991. In 1986, she received an award from the AHA Volunteer Excellence Program for dedicated service, and in 1991 was recognized by the Ohio State House of Representatives for 30 years of service to the hospital.

She was also the first woman to serve on the board of trustees of the First National Bank of East Liverpool. She served from 1978-1988, until the bank was acquired by BankOne.

Hannah was an active member of Beth Shalom congregation. She also supported numerous other community organizations.

She and Leo moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 1991. She continued to volunteer at a local hospital there until 2020.

Hannah is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leo; her daughter, son, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a dedicated volunteer in the communities in which she lived, an avid bridge player, and an ardent fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

No service is planned, per the family's wishes. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool.
