EAST LIVERPOOL - William L. "Bill" Moffett, 60, of East Liverpool passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., after a short, brave, and courageous battle with liver cancer.
Bill was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on April 2, 1963, a son of the late Earl William and Margie Irene (Stacey) Moffett. He was their youngest and most challenging child whom they loved with their whole heart.
This obituary is a promise I made to him the day before he passed. He wanted me, his wife, Fonda, to write his obituary. Considering I am not a writer, please bear with me. He spent his last full day here on earth with me and our two kids, Brittany and Billy. He loved the moments when it was just the four of us. All our family decisions were always made with the four of us.
Bill was actively involved for years in the racing community. He was a founding member for many of the car clubs in the area. He was involved with derby teams and was a member of the Sudden Impact Derby Team, which I believe he and one of his best friends J Milhoan named.
Bill was involved for many years with Tri County Four Wheelers. He was getting ready for his next race when he became ill. He loved his race truck, and he named it "Grumpy." If you knew Bill, you know the name was fitting. He enjoyed working in the garage and spent most of his free time in the garage. Bill could fix anything. We used to laugh because he kept my electric curlers working for over 20 years. If something broke in the house, he was fixing it. He had an amazing mechanical ability. If I dreamed it, he built it.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. We never wanted to do anything without our family.
Together with God, we created two beautiful kids and two amazing grandkids. He most loved the family Disney trips. We would travel by car or van because he said part of the fun is getting there. He was right, we had a blast. He would take us wherever we wanted to go, even if he wasn't a fan. Bill had a big heart and would do anything for his family and his friends. He never knew a stranger; he made friends wherever he went.
He was a Christian man and never lost his faith through his final battle. He encouraged us to keep our faith, God is with us.
Bill worked his entire life as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was currently employed with H and K Equipment in Coraopolis, Pa. I am so thankful for the support they have showed us during this difficult time.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three brothers, Jackie Moffett, Rusty Moffett and Earl "Buster" Moffett; brother-in-law Donald Raffle and our dog Hershey (who also passed on Feb. 21, 2022, two years ago).
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Fonda Moffett; his two kids who he adored, Brittany Pugh and her husband Jason and Billy Moffett and his fiancee Angelica Lynn; his grandkids who he cherished with his whole heart, Adeline and Jase Pugh; the family dog, Riley; his sister Kathie Milhoan and her husband Terry; sisters-in-law Kathy Moffett, Pat Moffett, Carol Landfried, and Virgina "Ginny" Raffle; his closest friends J and Kim Milhoan and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday where the family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m. Pastor Donny Lytle will conduct a service at the funeral home on Saturday at 7 p.m.
