John Michael McAvoy

John Michael McAvoy was called to his eternal home on Jan. 26, 2024.

As a 49-year member of Boilermakers Local Lodge 154, Pittsburgh, Pa., John had a wonderful career and life as a construction Boilermaker.

John was a member of the Moose Club since 1978, and has current membership at Lodge 1835 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 285 in Edgewater, Fla..

Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, motorcycle racing, and riding. After retirement, fishing and boating on the Florida waterways filled his days. Caring for his family and all those around him was a special gift he expressed every day. His faith in God was ever present.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Tina; sons John Patrick (Amy) and Michael (Haley); sisters Susie Milby (Thomas), and Sheri McAvoy-Reese; a special grandson Johnny; nieces, Michelle and Kaylan; a nephew, Kyle; along with great-nephews, a great-niece and loving aunts, cousins, and an uncle.

John was preceded in death by his parents John F. "Jack" and Patricia McAvoy.

Father Bill Methany will preside for the Catholic Funeral Liturgy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. The family will be present at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. when friends are welcome to visit. Boilermakers Ritual will be held on Sunday during the visitation at 6 p.m. John's burial will be held at Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester.
