Kathryn J. Flara

1938-2024

Kathryn J. Flara, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her residence Jan. 1, 2024. She was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Georgetown, Pa., the daughter of the late Robert and Muriel (Bryan) Johnson.

Kathy led a fulfilling life creating a warm and welcoming home for her family while bravely overcoming the adversities life placed in her way, including being a 37-year breast cancer survivor.

One of Kathy's greatest passions was golf, and for 25 years she played on Hoge's Ladies Golf League, forming special connections with fellow players along with competing and winning ladies championships. She also enjoyed being a part of a pinochle card club where her fierce competitive spirit shone through in the games she played.

Kathy was a member of Saint Aloysius Church for many years. In her later years, she found solace and community at Green Valley United Methodist Church.

Kathy will be deeply missed by her children Gene Douglas (Tracy) Flara of New Middletown, Ohio, Leah "Jewelene" (Paul) Steve of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Carol Flara of Midland, Pa. She was a loving grandmother and will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Jessica (Jeff) Arneson, Patrick (Grace) Flara and Andrew Flara, and doted on her three great-grandchildren, Harper, Blaise and Elliot. Kathy also leaves behind her sister-in-law Mary Ann Johnson, brother-in-law Gerald Parker, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Gino Flara, whom she married in June of 1968, and her siblings Neil Johnson, Jim Johnson and Carolyn Parker.

Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories. She will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Susan Pickering officiating. Kathy will be laid to rest in Mill Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
